    March 15, 2025 presented by Ash Bishop Who would Batman be without the Joker? If not for Javert’s obsession with catching Jean Valjean in a criminal act, would the story have been as compelling? In this workshop, we’ll delve into the unexpected challenges of societal open-mindedness in creating the villains who thwart our heroes, and explore the evolving concept of characters traditionally viewed as antagonists in literature. Ash Bishop is a lifetime reader who loves all genres, especially science fiction, mystery, and fantasy. His first novel, Intergalactic Exterminators, Inc., won the prestigious Audie Award for Best Audio Book of 2023 in the category of Science Fiction. His second novel, The Horoscope Writer, won an Independent Publisher Award (IPPY), earned a nomination for a Foreword INDIES award for best Mystery novel, and is published internationally in multiple languages. Ash holds an MFA in Creative Writing from SDSU and taught high school English. He’s also worked in the video game industry, in educational app development, and during the film production of the movie Jackie brown, he fetched coffee for Quentin Tarantino. Currently, Ash works in veteran services, assisting members of the military transition into the civilian workforce.
